gardenfork.tv is an online video show, its my version of a Do It Yourself (DIY) television show, except it plays on your laptop or your iPod. gardenfork.tv is available as a Flash movie (the player on the home page), an iTunes podcast, and I post thoughts, how-to and recipes on our viewer forum The Greenhouse. I also produce Real World Green, a web video show on practical things you can do to reduce your impact on the earth. Please check it out here or on iTunes. The Greenhouse is where Gardenfork and Real World Green viewers come to post their own thoughts, questions, answers, pictures, and videos. Please check it out. _______________ I have this eclectic background and know enough to be dangerous about many things. And I have this compelling drive to share with everyone the stuff that swirls through my head, whether the world wants it or not. Some background: My grandfather was a building superintendent in The Bronx, and in my family we didn't hire anyone to come fix the furnace or do repairs, we did it all ourselves. Sometimes we did it really badly, but we didn't have the money to pay someone. One day when I was about 14, my father bought my brother and I a 1949 Ford F-1 pickup truck. There was just one problem, it was in pieces. Someone had taken it apart, but not put it back together. So this was how I learned about cars. I put one back together. This became the basis of how I learned about most things, be they the clothes washer or the computer, I took it apart to see how it worked. Sometimes things didn't (and still don't) always go back together the way they should. This knowledge proved helpful when we bought our little house upstate. I've put in a new foundation, a roof, a well, new clapboard, moved the bathroom, and pulled chipmunks out of the kitchen ceiling (NOT fun). I have always been a gardener. In New York City I started gardening and composting in a Greenthumb community garden, and I started gardening at our house upstate as well. I also attempt to cook food; I don't always succeed, but I try. My father, Otto,(being of German and Hungarian descent) has always cooked Italian food; at my parent's house I would cook stuff from Joy of Cooking and the Better Homes and Gardens cookbook. I've pitched several cooking-gardening shows to the cable networks with no success, and then in the spring of 2006 I ran across Crash Test Kitchen, a web video show about cooking by my now friends Lenny & Waz, and the lightbulb went off in my head: I could do this. You can do this too, watch and learn. __________
