Here Eric shows you how to use a chainsaw to cut up tree logs into firewood. Keep in mind Eric is not a professional lumberjack, just your average DIY guy who likes to use his chainsaw to cut down trees, and cut the logs to fireplace length. Use this information at your own risk. Always follow all the safety instructions that came with your chainsaw.
Proper placement of the chainsaw relative to your body, especially your legs and feet is real important here. Think about how the chainsaw may slip down, or up and what part of your body it may hit, which would be a bad thing. What may seem like a comfortable position to hold the saw, especially while you are kneeling to cut up trees, may not be the best way to do something. Steel toed boots are a must have when cutting firewood.
A sharp chainsaw chain is mandatory, if your chainsaw is spitting out fine sawdust while cutting, its time to switch out the chain with a sharp one. A sharp chain makes large wood shavings when its cutting, not fine wood dust.

Hi Rochows,
Great info in this video! I showed my husband who has been using a chainsaw since he was 14 the original chainsaw video of you cutting down a tree and he thought the safety gear was a little over kill. (Keep reading to find out how wrong he was!!!)
Fast forward a few months and after I got him a new chain saw for our anniversary he went straight out and started cutting down some dead trees in our yard. After some major nagging about safety he put on eye protection and not 5 minutes later a ten foot long section of a limb fell on his head!!! I saw the whole thing! It came down in a cartwheel type rotation - one end bounced off his face and the other end whacked him in the back of the head!!!
He's lucky to be alive, he's lucky he didn't lose his vision, he's lucky they could put his face back together (some scarring but I still think he's cute), he's lucky he didn't get knocked out cold and drop the blade on his leg... the list goes on. It cost us $12,000.00 for medical bills (no insurance) and several grey hairs.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE listen to Eric and WEAR THE SAFETY GEAR!!! I'm going out and buying all the gear listed I'm sure it will cost far less than $12,000.00! GardenFork knows best.
Thanks,

How about a chainsaw blade sharpening video? It's like $6 a chain to have it done at a power equipment store. Seems like a lot to me.

You should start the saw with the brake on. Other that that a very informative video.
