Paul
A note to Rick,
I tried to get a data only plan for my iPhone and AT&T said NO and that I would have to get an iPod Touch. I got a Hot Spot from Walmart, it uses the Sprint Network and you buy MB/GB that never expire until you use them. Virgin, T-Mobile and another that I can't remember have the same deal except their data purchased only lasts for one month.
Eric Gunnar Rochow
thanks paul, i also see that Virgin will be selling the iPhone too. i have used their pay as you go plan with a simple cell phone and it works well. eric.
@rhkennerly
Paul, I was slinging through stuff pretty quick in the podcast, so I may have gotten it confused. I have a data plan (att) for my iPad (mostly so I can use Square to accept payments).
Right now I plan to just turn my iPhone into a an iTouch by disabling the phone/data part of it when my contract expires and picking up some burner phones for the occasional call.
But now, this hotspot idea! I hadn't considered that. I really needed something like that for the greenhouse. Somebody fished out my 10 hard-earned catfish from my aquaponics tank. I need a little motion triggered surveillance and transmission.
Thanks.
