Here's a great way to get rid of slugs organically in your vegetable garden. This DIY slug trap was sent to us by Laurel who has slugs on her vegetable plants. Great way of practicing organic slug control.
I enjoy what you do, and love the dogs... Now that strawberries are ripening, there are always slugs. I have a trap that I like, and you might like it too. It's easy.
Take an empty small coffee can to start. About ⅓ of the way down, drill 3 or 4 holes that measure ¾ to 1 inch. Spray a little bit of oil on the inside.. Now, bury it, just to where the holes are. Then you pour about 1 inch of beer in the can and top it with the plastic lid.
Voila, a slug trap, with "no chemical or dyes", just beer. Slugs like beer, they go in and down to eat, but have a hard time getting out because of the greased sides. Have the dirt come up to the hole so it's easy for the slug to crawl through.
You are like a friend that comes into my house
How neat, super simple way to deal with slugs and you get to drink some beer too! Do you have a way to get rid of slugs? Let us know below:

One of the best way to get rid of slugs: Be the owner of 2 or 3 or even more "Laufenten" (Chinese running ducks or how are they called in the USA? ). The ducks that become very tall when they run around. They are incredible slug chasers and find all slugs whereever they may hide !
This type of duck is very modern in Austria at the moment and everyone that has a little yarn has one or two "Laufenten".
These ducks will leave everything else on the side if they only can eat a slug !
You only need a little house for them for the night (where the fox can not harm them), maybe a little pond (I took a small shower tub), a pretty bid garden and of course some slugs. Of course they will be very thankful for some extra grounded food for chickens, fresh water and I also feed them some old dry bread which I water for them in the morning.
They are no pets you can touch, but they are really interesting to watch.
The only really important thing is: When they eat slugs, they HAVE TO DRINK AND BE SERVED WATER. Otherwise they cannot swallow the slugs and may be dead !
Best wishes from Austria ! Doris

I put out yeast/sugar water in a tuna fish can. Could not stand to put the beer out.
We had a guinea fowl rooster show up in our subdivision a couple of years ago. Since he has arrived the slugs are gone, as well as the crickets and grasshoppers. He's still here and has become a neighborhood pet. He is lonely as there are no guinea fowl hens around. Don't know where he came from, but he is a welcome addition.

I would like to try the yeastsugar water/tuna can combo... Does anyone know the portion/recipe for this method?
THANKS sooo much!!.

We had tiny pinworms boring holes in our strawberries. Installed two of these in the raised bed. 24 hours after I put them in, the bottom of each trap was loaded with the dead little buggers. This idea works like a champ. The only thing I did differently was to use clear plastic containers with screw on lids. Easier to cut the holes and no worries about cutting yourself on Sharp metal.
