I just got a whole set of cast iron pans but have not seasoned them yet. Growing up when ever we washed them we would put them on the stove and put oil in it let it heat up and than poured salt on it and rubbed it in. We used it over and over for yrs. I love coking in cast iron. Is this the best way to season it after you cook and wash it.

Almost non-stick cast iron pan:
For food to stick you need a sufficiently high temperature. The massive cast iron pan has sufficient thermal mass to absorb and distribute heat, i.e. lower the peak temperatures and resulting in a much more uniform temperature distribution.
That's also why higher end pots have a copper bottom conducting and distributing heat superbly. Much lower temperature peaks.

Hi Eric.
Just went to put some rabbit in my cast iron pot and it was rusted. Came on line to find out whet to do. Thanks for the great tips. Your myth busting tips were especially handy - polymerisation is in my head now!
Cheers
