Hi Friend,

Here is Spike at the dog beach in Prospect Park, Brooklyn. She has recovered enough from knee surgery that we can walk to the beach and Andy gets to swim. You might be able to see Andy in the back of this photo. Spike and I will go to Eclipse Specialty Vet in New Jersey next Thursday for her 2 month x-ray. Pretty sure she will get the green light to go off leash again.

The bee swarm drama is over. I did not make any videos about it, but I talk about it on the latest GF Radio podcast. Our big hive swarmed 3 times, which is very unusual. We checked it yesterday and found, despite several intact queen cells 2 weeks ago, it was queenless. We pulled a frame of brood (cells that have fresh eggs in them) from our new hive and put it in the queenless post swarm hive. The bees will raise several queens from the young eggs we provided them.

This new queen raising process will take weeks, and we will not harvest any honey from this hive. There aren't enough workers left in the hive to make excess honey we can pull off the hive. But our other hive we started this spring is looking good. It has a honey super (wooden box with honeycomb frames in it) on top of the hive, and the main nectar flow from Linden trees will start very soon.
