Spike's Second Knee Surgery :)
Hi Friend,
2 years ago Spike tore her cranial cruciate ligament in her left knee. She had surgery at Eclipse Specialty Surgical & ER in New Jersey. Excellent people if you live in the tri-state area.
Dr. Miller, Spike's surgeon, told us she had a 50% chance of blowing out the other knee. That happened 2 months ago while Spike was doing what many dog people call 'the zooms' in the park.
She had TTA surgery: "Tibial Tuberosity Advancement (TTA) is a surgical procedure used to repair a torn cranial cruciate ligament in dogs, which stabilizes the knee joint. The surgery involves repositioning a part of the shin bone to improve the alignment of the patellar ligament, helping to reduce instability and pain in the knee." (HopeCenterVet.com & NDSR.CO.UK)
She is recovering well, but you have to follow your surgeon's instructions. Big bags of frozen vegetables are great ice packs. Slow and steady works best. 3 weeks post surgery today and Spike had her first leashed walk in the park.

On the podcast, Rick starts talking about this repair tape. I had never heard of self amalgamating tape before! AKA silicon fusing tape. That is very surprising. Rick used it to patch up his airplane's cooling system so he could fly back home. $9 for two rolls on Amazon here.
